About our Handmade Pottery
Highlights of Saltbox Pottery Stoneware:
- Durable – In materials and design. Tough stoneware made with a heavier rim to prevent chipping and a sophisticated lighter body, finished in tough resilient glazes, ensuring years of enjoyment.
- Functional – Oven, microwave and dishwasher safe, great for every day use or for display.
- Beautiful – Available in a wide variety of glazes and visual designs making it suitable for nearly any decor.
Alfred University educated Potter Tracy King Adams and Bennington College educated Megan Tyrol use a custom formulated stoneware clay body created through many years of experience. Each piece is hand-thrown on a potter’s wheel and is fired in a 2,350 degree gas kiln. Brilliant, durable antique glazes and subtle decoration enhance the timeless designs, which reflect a traditional sensibility both in shape and color. The functional nature of our pottery means it is lead-free, dishwasher, microwave and oven safe and will last for many years to come, even with daily use.
Tracy opened her Woolwich, Maine studio/gallery in 1995 after working for another potter for many years. Since then, her primary goal has been to create and market functional stoneware pottery, emphasizing traditional shapes and colors.
